• Public ownership of public assets – no privatisation of the Ports of Auckland, airport shares or our water company
• Ensuring local communities have a voice
• Tackling the big issues facing Auckland
• Putting the local back into local democracy
We need to grow our future, not sell it. Public ownership of Auckland’s assets is crucial to building a world-class city.
Many Aucklanders are worried that their key public assets, such as the Ports of Auckland, the airport and water company, could be sold by the new Auckland Council. This is a real threat.
These assets are there for the benefit of ALL of Auckland, to ensure we have the infrastructure and services to provide for every Aucklander and to develop our region for the future.
I have always been consistent and unequivocal on my position towards the retention of Auckland’s public assets. If I am elected mayor of Auckland, there will be NO sell-off of our airport, seaport or water company. Unlike some mayoral contenders, I will not flip-flop on this. Instead I will continue to fight on this issue on behalf of all of Auckland.
Aucklanders are also concerned that communities will lose their local voice and be under-represented once the new Auckland Council is established. That the power, money and political focus, will move from their communities to another part of town.
